Guinea pig for a child

Is a guinea pig dangerous for a child? Can it bite or do other harm? No no and one more time no. Guinea pigs, of course, can potentially bite a person, but they do this only in the most extreme cases, when their lives are in danger, for example. And with a kind and careful attitude towards her, the pig will never bite either you or the child. In general, guinea pigs are very meek and defenseless animals. They have no external means of protection from predators, they are non-aggressive and completely harmless.

A guinea pig can be safely given to a child starting from 7-8 years of age. Boys and girls at this age will be able to independently feed the pig 2-3 times a day, change the water in the drinker, add hay, play with the pig and follow her while she walks around the room, and even, quite likely, clean the cage.

Let your child feel his share of responsibility while feeding the animal, caring for him and cleaning his home. But do not leave the animal to the child, do not make sure first that the guinea pig is vigorous. A change in the behavior of the animal, as a rule, indicates a disease – which the child may simply not notice.

Be sure to show your child how to handle and hold the pig correctly so as not to injure its spine.

Note . There was a case when children, out of a feeling of love for an animal, simply squeezed a guinea pig in their hands to death. She cannot defend herself, does not scratch or bite, will not twitch strongly like a rabbit, and cannot deftly jump to the floor like a cat. Explain all this to the child so that the animal does not die through his fault in the process of communication.
